August 16-22: Kindergarten and Lagoon!

August 16.  The tooth fairy was very generous and left Kimball $2 for his first tooth.  He then insisted on going to the dollar store as soon as it opened to spend it.  He bought two tarantulas and a snake.  On Saturday we also did a little back to school shopping.  The boys each got new underwear, new pajamas and a first day of school outfit.  Abby got some pajamas too!

August 17.  On Sunday I made healthy Chocolate Star Wars cupcakes with zucchini and applesauce.  Kimball told me "These are really good even though they are healthy."

I thought Abby looked really cute at church in her "I am a Child of God" crown from nursery.  On Sunday I was also set apart in my new calling as Gospel Doctrine Teacher.  I wasn't planning on teaching and even called the new Sunday School President to confirm, but there was no teacher so I had to wing it.  I figure it can only get better from here.  I also sang "Come Thou Fount" in a small group in Sacrament Meeting.  It was a busy Sabbath.

August 18.  This week was a little strange for me.  I have worked nearly every day this summer with the help of London.  Unfortunately our favorite baby sitter is off to college at USU.  On Monday, our neighbor Nancy helped out a little so I could stay on top of things.  Bryce had his interview with the University of Houston today.  They were an hour late due to technically difficulties and our internet cut out several times, but all in all I think he presented his best self.  We can only wait and see.

On Monday afternoon the boys got out the Mega Bloks and spent an hour playing very nicely with each other while Abby napped.  They love playing "pets."  Here is Stan feeding his latest pet.

August 19.  Tuesday I did a little work and then we went to IKEA.  I wanted to get one of these to house all of the kids stuffed animals.

In the evening was Back to School night and I took Kimball over to meet his teacher and see his classroom.  He is pretty excited.  I left Abby and Stan home with Bryce because Abby had been running a temperature.  Kimball had one last week without any other symptoms.  I think it must be going around.

August 20.  On Wednesday Kimball had is kindergarten assessment at his new school.  He did really well and is ready to read!  Afterwards we went to Sam's Club and loaded up on treats for Lagoon.

August 21.  Thursday was Lagoon Day!

Abby liked going on the rides but wouldn't go on any alone--only with Stan.

Kimball got to go on a lot of big kid rides with his cousins.  He loved it!

Once Dad discovered that Kimball was 46 inches in shoes and thus tall enough to go on roller coasters, he took him on Wicked!  Kimball was a little scared but ended up loving it.  Wicked was his favorite ride of the day and he was pretty proud to be a big kid!

I didn't get a picture but I took the boys on Rattlesnake Rapids with John, Jill, Luke, Ellie, Jake and Miles.  Stan and I got drenched.  It might have been ok if it was a hot day, but it was chilly.  Poor Stan!  We eventually recovered when I came up with the plan to dry his shirt with a hand dryer in the bathroom.

By the end of the day Stan was running a fever and feeling pretty crummy.  :(

August 22.  Friday morning we went to the viewing of one of Bryce's cousins.  She was about 44 years old with two small children (8 and 5).  She had some heath problems and had fallen in their home.  Her husband found her after returning from his graveyard shift.  So heartbreaking.  Bryce stayed for the funeral.

After the viewing I took the kids shopping for new shoes for school.  Then I did a little work while they went to a neighbor's.  When I picked them up Stan was complaining of a stomach ache.  He had complained earlier in the day but his symptoms went away.  Given how miserable he seemed I took him to the after hours clinic.  The doctor didn't find anything so we went to dinner at Rumbi Island.  I don't know what to make of our little Stan.  He is a middle child who craves attention, but Bryce worries he has some other digestive issues.  We will keep an eye on him.
