To Sleep or Not to Sleep

When Kimball started on solids there was one universal theme in the responses: "Oh good, now he'll sleep through the night."  "I loved it when ___ started; I got so much more sleep."  "They sleep so much better on solids."

When Kimball started on solids he was already sleeping through the night.  I couldn't really imagine an improvement.  I also had no idea that we could regress.  A few weeks ago he started waking up once a night.  Last night after going down at 7:30, he woke up at 10:30, 12:30, 3:30 and then 6:30.  I felt like he was two months old again.  Will taking him off solids fix that?

The adventures of Bruce Wayne

Bruce still pees in the house.  I am pretty resigned that we may never cure him.  So Bryce and I do our best to never let him alone.  I often find myself in one room thinking, "Where's Bruce?" and leave what I am doing, sometimes with carrot peeler or spatula in hand to see where the dog actually is and whether I need to pull out the Resolve.  This morning I found him sitting on Kimball's clean laundry.  Oh well, at least he didn't pee on it.

Here is another picture of Bruce snuggled up to Kimball after he successfully rolled over.  He looks proud of himself, doesn't he.  I mean, Kimball.  Well, they both look pretty impressed with themselves.

Wedding Cake!

My friend Karen Gray got married on Saturday to a great guy.  I made their cake.  I've come a long way since that basket weave cake for Fiona.  But, Fi, I have to say that yours, despite the fact that it was licked by my dog, was the best of them all!

Ode to an iPod

Christmas 2007 was a good year.  My parents gave me and Bryce iPod Touches.   We were pretty excited.  So excited that we drove straight to the Apple Store for accessories.  However, it wasn't until the summer of 2008 that the true gift began.  Apple released its 2.0 operating system upgrade an opened its App Store.  I became a downloading fiend.  I downloaded a program for breast feeding.  I downloaded games--solitaire, Trism (my favorite) and a dot game--, recipes, an eReader.  I have read all of Jane Eyre on my iPod.  I read the scriptures on my iPod.  I check my email and Facebook constantly.  I use it when I'm awake, I use it in bed, sometimes I think I even use it in my sleep.  However, most of my time spent on the iPod is while nursing.  This was fine until Kimball decided that he was interested in whatever I was doing.  Now he grabs the iPod and investigates its functions in the best way a nearly 5-month-old knows how--he sticks it in his mouth.

UtahDateNight.com

I have been thinking about doing a website on what to do in Utah for years.  In fact it will be three years this summer that the idea has been festering.  Part of the problem is that I have some pretty definite thoughts about how it should work, but I am no computer programer.  Despite my reservations, I have thrown together a site that simply lists all the things that are going on in Utah.  It needs some work, but until I can hire a programer, this will have to do.  Many thanks to Bret for the gorgeous picture of the Salt Lake skyline.  So, let me know what you think: utahdatenight.com.

Scrapbooking without pictures

So, we celebrated New Year's with my sister Charlotte.  I totally intended to take a picture so I could scrapbook the event, but I forgot.  However, I have found that the internet combined with digital scrapbooking cannot prevent me recording anything.  (Char, if you want one of these I can easily change the box to say whatever you want.   And you gotta love the picture of fire, don't ya?)

Baby Milestones

Kimball has hit some pretty important milestones lately.  Like his first sweet potatoes . . .
Rolling over for the first time . . .

His first after dinner nap . . .

And his first tooth . . . !

This baby is so much fun!  Bryce and I practically have to fight over him.  Don't worry, we don't come to blows.   We are so blessed to have him in our family.  (Do I say that too much?)

P.S. Bruce is still jealous, but isn't the one that caused the scratch on Kimball's nose.  He did that all by himself.
