Week 8 Roundup: What we ran out of
So it's Friday. As of today, I have been doing my no grocery store thing for 8 weeks. Technically, I should have 4 more weeks to go. And today I should be giving you a list of the things I have run out of. But the truth is, I don't even know. Half my food is in Mt. Pleasant and half here. I feel a little culinarily schizophrenic. Here's hoping I get some kitchen therapy soon.

Week 7 Roundup: What we ran out of
I found this post I started last week. I would have posted it Friday if I had been in any state to do so. I am posting it now, nearly a week late. Hey. We moved.
- Cheddar cheese. The last of the shredded cheddar went into a mac and cheese lunch.
- Chicken. The two chicken breasts I started out with were sacrificed this week to the Chinese chicken salad.
- Rice Sticks. Also went into the Chinese chicken salad.
- Onion. My last non-dehydrated onion went into the Elk Lo Mein.
- Turkey. The boneless roast I bought went into a turkey dinner, tacos, a spaghetti casserole and a pot pie.
- Canned beans. Can you believe it? Well, there is one can of butter beans, but those are going into bread. I think I also have a can or two of green beens. I also have dried beans, so not to worry too much. And once we get our stuff out of our storage unit, I will have 50 pounds of pinto beans.
- Corn. The last of the frozen corn went into the chili.
- Chili powder. You can guess where that went. Yup, chili.

Week 6 Roundup: What we ran out of
Today marks the halfway mark for my grocery abstinence. I'm still feeling pretty good about things.
- Apple Juice, again. After drinking all our commercial apple juice, we started in on the home canned apple juice in my parents' basement. Some of this was "spiced" with cinnamon. Kimball seemed to like this just as much as the plain. We have also downed all the plumb juice, which is surprisingly delicious. Perhaps I will juice more of them in September--or whenever plumbs are ripe. When are plumbs ripe?
- Dry mustard. I used the last of this on the venison stir-fry.
- Lime juice. I used up the last of this in the salad dressing we are using tonight. I will post it tomorrow.
- Chocolate syrup. Well, we would have run out of this if I hadn't purchased a new bottle last Friday.
- Chocolate chips. I might have eaten them as a snack.
- Canned crab.

Week 4 Roundup: What we ran out of
Another week has come and gone. And so have foods from our cupboards.
- Diced Turkey. I had two bags of pre-cooked diced turkey. These make for quick meals, but now they are gone.
- French Bread. The loaf I had hiding in the freezer was made into garlic toast. However, I think I could probably figure out how to make French bread.
- Frozen Green Peppers. I have a large can of green peppers that are dehydrated that I might have to bust out.
- Fruit Baby Food. This was sad, but Baby will not starve thanks to dehydrated fruits. See the post here.
- Canned Corn. Or as Kimball calls it "popcorn". Good thing I still have one bag in the freezer.
- Raspberry Jam. Sad. We have peach, but I like raspberry better.

Week 3 Roundup: What we ran out of
Wow, three weeks completed. That's 1/4 of the way done. And we continue to run out of stuff:
- Spray Oil. This is one of those things that you can live without, but you don't really want to. I will miss it when I make pancakes and bread.
- Mozzarella. I knew this day was coming.
- Grape juice. My sister-in-law has concord grape vines in her back yard. For the past two years I have helped her juice them and she had shared the bounty. This juice is so delicious. We will miss it.
There are lots of things we are almost out of, but I will save those for next week.

Week 2 Roundup: What we ran out of
I can't believe the second week of living on food storage is actually over. I had to update last week's list of items we ran out of after I realized we used up more than I accounted for. Let's hope I don't have to do the same this week.
- Syrup. This was the maple flavored syrup that Kimball loves on his pancakes. We didn't so much run out as have the syrup attacked by ants in the cupboard. Sad loss. Maple flavoring would be a good thing to have in food storage.
- Saltines. Bryce likes these with his tomato soup. I'm considering making some from scratch, provided I can find my jar of scratch--i.e. if the recipe calls for butter, Bryce might have to go without. Ok, maybe this butter thing is going too far.
- Graham crackers. We had several boxes of these to begin with, but without ice cream Bryce has turned to chocolate icing for comfort. I might have to find a homemade recipe for these too. I'm pretty sure these will require butter. Oh, well. Graham crackers and chocolate icing might be a butter worthy activity.
- Milk. I'm talking about the real stuff here. It's powdered from here on out. Or raw milk provided you all vote in the poll to the right.
- Oranges, the last of our fresh fruit. We had two, they are both gone.
- Apple juice. Poor Kimball. I think my parents have some homemade spiced cider in the basement. It may not be there when they get home.
- Tortillas. Add these to the list of things to learn to make.

Week 1 Roundup: What we ran out of
Eating without going to the store for a week is not that big of a deal. Most of us have probably survived that. I've just got 11 more weeks of the same.
Here is what I ran out of:
Here is what I ran out of:
- Ice cream. This makes Bryce want to own a milk cow and an ice cream maker.
- Dill pickles. Bryce does not consider this a deprivation, but I love them on tuna. I do, however, have some sweet ones that will have to work. Note to self: can some dill pickles. Better yet, plant some cucumbers!
- Canola oil. This is potentially our biggest disaster because we need oil to make bread. I do have some peanut oil and olive oil, but I also have a generous mother-in-law who has already offered to replenish our supply. I imagine our families will also come to the rescue in case of real disasters.
- Parmesan cheese. I don't know what to do about this one. I don't even have any of the powdered stuff on hand.
- Prenatal vitamins. I still take these because I'm nursing. I have some one-a-day women's which will get me by, but prenatals are something we women of childbearing years should have on hand.
- Canned pineapple. I used my last can on the beans Wednesday night. I don't store a ton of canned fruit because we don't eat a lot, but now that we won't have as much fresh fruit, I'm reconsidering my storage priorities. Kimball loves fruit.
I have a feeling that as the weeks go by, this list will get longer.
UPDATE: In retrospect, I realized I should have included the following:
UPDATE: In retrospect, I realized I should have included the following:
- Bananas. Poor Kimball, he asks for one nearly every morning.
- Lettuce
- Red bell pepper
- Italian Sausage. I used this here.
- Sour Cream
